To those in the know, Beat Hazard (and by proxy Beat Hazard Ultra) as well as Symphony are both games powered by your music- determining the enemies, weapons, and whatnot you get from the game. I've had Beat Hazard Ultra forever from an old humble bundle ages ago, and to be plainly honest, I really only like the boss rush. There's too many things to easily run into, and the idea that you need powerups to get the music volume turned up was a major turnoff for me. Then about a week ago I got Symphony, and I can't put it down. It's a rail shooter with a similar concept, and it's both much easier and infinitely more difficult at the same time. However, unlike Beat Hazard, I never felt like the times I died in Symphony were cheap physics or something else beyond my control. The game also rewards you with bonuses, power-ups, and weapons for your ship when you beat certain songs. To that end, I gotta hand it to J0mpa- thanks to you I have maxed out double cannons, twin lasers, and missile launchers. All the songs in question, from EJR to Party Ghost, to Muffoxx, to A9K I found out about through J0mpa. So, thanks for all the tricked out superweapons sir!
To that end, if you like games that use your music to design the levels, I highly recommend Symphony. Beat Hazard is good, and looks good, but isn't quite as easy to pick up and play, or quite as much fun in my opinion.
If anyone knows any other games powered by music, let me know!
