First off, please please please respect other peoples opinions and beliefs. Everyone is entitled to their own, so respect that.
Religion is one of the oldest social conventions of all time. Even in the Epic of Gilgamesh, they had Gods and respected their messages that were usually shown through 'omens', such as bad weather etc. From a historic view, they couldn't explain (or didn't have other explanations) the world and the environment around them. Their answer was God. Historic civilizations had Gods for different things. Look at the Romans, the Vikings and especially the Greeks.
At a personal level, I'm not sure. Although I respect other cultures and ways of belief, I'm defiantly more of a scientific person. I like to have facts and be able to see evidence for something.
Just my opinion. Be nice.

I was raised in a catholic household, but I believe in science since, in my opinion, it makes more sense following facts than a higher being in the sky that can't be proved.

I think to summaries my stance religion in terms of the belief in a God, i'd quote Penn Jillette here : "There is no god, and that's the simple truth. If every trace of any single religion were wiped out and nothing were passed on, it would never be created in exactly the same way again. There might be some other nonsense in its place, but not that exact nonsense. If all science were wiped out, it would still be true and someone would find a way to figure it out again"
Now i'm not personally saying religion is nonsense, the majority of the time they have a great deal to teach in terms of values and morals, and family is usually always a factor that plays a big part, which i appreciate. But blind faith in a greater being that you should worship and fear; on the other hand, i do not agree with one bit!
There we go.

I agree with that, the morals and values taught by religion are good, but just believing in something with out facts proving it, is not for me.

I was born under a half protestant/half catholic household. I personally like both of them. The one thing I don't like is that there are some protestant branches that insult other religions other than Christianity. But I like them both still. On to the Atheists, I have no problem with non-believers of Christ, I grew up WITH them, too.

A very different way of saying the same thing so far!
It's a difficult one - humans have always believed in a higher being of some description. What makes people so sure there is nothing?

Its complicated. Simple as that. The human mind is a magnificent thing but everyone's is different. It depends on who you are, you're life, etc.

Although it's not a quote on religion, the quote is still quite relevant. He said something around the lines of, "it depends on your social-culture," meaning its all dependent on whether or not your hand is more or less forced by what your culture says is correct.

Personally, I'm not extremely religious. I like having facts to back things up, and there is a lot of scientific proof to back up how the world and everything else was created. However, I do like being able to have a feeling that something, no matter what you want to call it, is powerful and is always on your side. I like being able to think "Well, If there is something helping me, maybe this or that can be possible". So I guess you can say that I'm on the fence about the whole religious thing.

Very good point well made Dyn. I think a lot of people would agree that when things are going right no matter how irrelevant, you almost feel something is there on your team.

It's hard to believe in God. Considering theres little to no evidence to supprt it, however I do believe somewhere there is something

I don't believe in organized religion, but I do believe in individual spirituality. Everyone should have their own code of morals, and beliefs, in my opinion.
